Combined Space, Water and Pool Heating

Solar Energy can provide a large proportion of your total home heating needs. In Canada the largest demand is usually space heating. On average this represents over 60% of total heating demand. Space heating can be distributed throughout the home by; central forced air, conventional radiators, radiant floor systems, or electric baseboard radiators. Solar energy can be used as the primary source to feed all of these distribution systems except for electric baseboards.

The biggest challenge when designing a viable solar space heating system is sizing the system to make economic sense. Since the biggest portion of the demand is during the 7 month heating season, a solar system either has to have a balancing demand in the summer or the solar heat produced in the highest insolation months is wasted. In the worst case scenario, the excess heat may breakdown the glycol solution. A pool provides that balance.

A properly sized system should not exceed the combined heating demands in July.

Homeowners can retrofit an existing space heating system to include Solar Hot Water and realize significant energy cost savings for space heating, domestic hot water and pool heating with these proven, integrated systems.
