MicroFIT Overview

Ontario’s Feed-In Tariff (FIT) is North America’s first comprehensive program for renewable energy and includes a fast-track program called MicroFIT which is designed to encourage people to build energy projects of 10 kilowatts or less.

MicroFIT Registration & Application

Registering for the Ontario MicroFIT program is Free and can be done online via the OPA’s website in a few minutes. Once registered, applicants may apply online for a contract to sell their electricity at a fixed rate for the next twenty years or more.

MicroFIT Payments

Once a MicroFIT project is built and in-service, payments are made on a continual, typically monthly basis. Payments are made by the local electricity distribution company (LDC) directly to the generator. The contracted price is guaranteed for a minimum of twenty years.
